Using “SavetheDayter” data upload / down tool

Before downloading a new program to controller you must record the settings and manually re-enter after the download.  A tool has been created or use a tool to capture the process and machine parameters before you download, then restore the data after the download – a good tool to use for this is “save the dater”.  It’s use is outlined below.

Using the Save the Dater tool.

Save the Dater will read / write process / machine setup data.
To use the tool first install the application on your computer.  Next run the application and select a topic to connect to your machine’s processor.  The topic must be configured in RSlinx as the tool uses the RSlinx opc topics. you can download save the dayter here
Select a topic:

PLC5 topic:

ControlLogic Topic
Connect topic by pressing the “Connect” button.  When connected topic will show up as greyed out like this:
The tool cannot be read or write data until the topic is connected.
Open a data source by clicking the open button:

Next read data by clicking the “read all” button.  The tool will report the number of successful reads, there should be no errors.   If there are errors, there are tags or registers in the data file that are not correct.  The tool shows you the errors with a red mark.

You can save the data or use save as to save to a new file name.  The data file is a simple text file that can be edited with a text editor if desired.

After you have loaded a new program into the processor, use the tool to restore the data by writing all.

To write the data click the “write all” button.  Make sure you are not doing this while the machine is running in automatic. The tool will report the number of successful writes, there should be no errors.  If there are errors, there are tags or registers in the data file that are not correct.
